The party took place at a small college in New Carthage, New England. The second act of “Walpurgisnacht” begins as Martha is making coffee in the kitchen. Martha wanders around all alone, drunk and exhausted in Act Three, “The Exorcism.”.

Known for his play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Edward Albee, in full Edward Franklin Albee, was born on March 12, 1928, in Washington, DC, and died on September 16, 2016, in Montauk, New York. An insightful portrayal of married life is found in the movie (1962), which displays a gruesome wit and slashing insight.
As an adopted child of a vaudeville theater owner whose family owned a chain of vaudeville theatres, Albee was the son of an assistant general manager at one point. Albee’s parents owned and showed saddle horses when he was adopted, however. Especially with his mother, whom he saw as distant and unloving, he had a tense relationship with his parents.
A native of New York City and nearby Westchester County, Albae grew up in the city. In 1946, he graduated from the Choate School in Connecticut and in 1946, he attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Late in his career, he turned to plays after writing poetry and an unpublished novel.
One of Albee’s earliest one-act plays was The Zoo Story (1959), followed by The Sandbox (1959), and then The American Dream (1961).
