Locate Creature 5e (5th Edition)

You may wish to explain or name any of these creatures that we are familiar with. When a creature is within 1,000 feet of you, you can sense the direction the creature is going. You may recognize the direction in which a moving creature moves if you keep it moving.

Locate Creature 5e

It can locate specific creatures that you recognize, or any nearby creatures of a particular kind (like a person or unicorn), so long as you have seen them up close- within a 30 foot radius- at least once. Name or describe a familiar creature. If you are within 1,000 feet of the creature, you can sense its location. The direction of its movement is obvious if it is moving.

If you referred to or named a creature that was in a different form, such as under the results of a polymorph spell, then this spell does not locate the creature if it was in a different form.

Locate Creature

If you are familiar with a creature, describe it or name it. As long as you are within 1,000 feet of the creature, you can sense its location. You can sense the direction of its movement when it moves.

It can locate a specific creature that you are familiar with, or one of a certain kind that you have seen up close (such as a human or a unicorn) at least once. The spell does not locate any creature in a different form, such as one that is affected by a polymorph spell. When running water blocks a direct path between you and the creature, this spell cannot locate it.

Give the name of a familiar creature to you. Within 1,000 feet of the creature, you can sense its location. You also know its direction of travel if the creature moves.

As long as you have seen such a creature up close once, it can find you that creature or the nearest one of its kind (such as a human or a unicorn), as long as you have seen it at least once up close. This spell cannot locate a creature in another form, such as while under the effects of a polymorph spell.

When there is running water ten feet or wider between you and a creature, you cannot locate the creature.

Final Words

It is possible that a creature which you are describing or naming is actually taking a different form than the one you described or named. But if the creature is taking a different form like being under the polymorph spell, and if this creature is not located by this summoning spell.
